So, big things this week for the little one! After doing a lot of reading about the benefits of baby sign language, we will be starting with Izzy this week. Slowly, of course, because I myself have to learn and remember to do the signs with her, so that she can learn, and eventually start doing the signs herself! We’ll be using Baby Signs, and starting out the the signs for “hungry” “diaper” and “STOP” lol.
The sign for “STOP” is important right now, because in the 2 or 3 days its been since she took those first few little “practice” steps, she has already progressed to doing this:
She also wont stay out of the kitchen, which is not ok, at least while im cooking. Normally, I put her in her play yard or exersaucer, so she’ll stay put, but has such a fit about being “jailed” that I can’t even concentrate on cooking! It’s time to go an and get the baby gate, that way she’ll be “free” but still out of a potential danger area. The gate, outlet blockers, cabinet locks, and the thing that keeps the toilet seat down are probably the only things we’ll do as far as baby proofing.
My wedding is being featured today over at Chronicles of Future Wife, so please go and check it out!
Also, today at TMSG, we are talking about the “ideal” amount of space between children, so go check that out too! Happy Wednesday!

i already have a hard time keeping up with her crawling, lol.
uh huh! tell me anything lol
hmmm… I thought about using baby sign language. I guess now would be a good time since he’s starting to understand a lot of what we say huh?
According to the book you can start as early as 6 months, but the older they are, the sooner they will understand the signs, and start doing them back, so it might be perfect timing! I got ours from the library, and if it seems to be working by the time im supposed to turn it back in, I may go ahead and just buy it!
A friend of mine has her son in daycare and they starting using the signs pretty early on I want to say around 3 months or so. So for a long time when she’d have him home he was only signing and not using any words. His mom was rather confused most of the time because of this lol. She didn’t know what the heck he was doing with his hands.
Congrats on your feature!!!!
Yeah, the baby gate sounds most ideal – that way she’ll feel “free” to roam about as she pleases, but will totally be out of harm’s way. Hmmm, we actually need to invest in a good one ourselves. DS has become really curious about the knobs on the “real” stove since we bought him a play kitchen.
My girlfriend majored in sign language and it is a beautiful thing to see her and her son sign to one another. I believe he signed first and then started talking.
I use signing with my kids at school as well as with Maddie. She started around 7 months.
